Page and Ward Recognized for Excellence in Music

Two Bridgewater College music majors—Kalia N. Page and Alexander D. Ward—were recognized for excellence in the performing arts at the college awards ceremony.

Two Bridgewater College music majors—Kalia N. Page and Alexander D. Ward—were recognized for excellence in the performing arts at the college awards ceemony.

Page received the Stephen Tayman Memorial Music Scholarship for $1,000 for the 2019-’20 academic year. Tayman, a member of the class of 1999, died while a student at Bridgewater College and the scholarship is given in his memory by his family.

Page is the daughter of Tiffany and Ryan Galaz of Ruckersville, Va. Page is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble and the Pep Band. She also is a member of the Handbell Choir, the Percussion Ensemble and Chordially Yours, a student-run female a cappella ensemble.

Ward was presented the Nelson T. Huffman Award for Musical Excellence. Selected by the music faculty, this award is given to seniors who have excelled both musically and academically. The award honors the late Nelson T. Huffman, long-time professor and chair of the department of music, and includes a cash prize and the winner’s name engraved on a plaque that hangs in the department of music.

Ward, who completed his studies in December 2018, is from Staunton, Va. As a student at Bridgewater, Ward was a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, the Percussion Ensemble, a jazz combo and the Gospel Band.

A professional drummer and percussionist, Ward is percussion instructor for Riverheads High School and Mary Baldwin University. He also teaches private lessons and performs with his band Red FAWN.

Page and Ward graduated on May 4.
