Joshua Layton Awarded Petcher Scholarship

Joshua A. Layton received the Esther Mae Wilson Petcher Memorial Scholarship for the 2019-’20 academic year. The $3,250 scholarship was presented at the annual awards ceremony.

Bridgewater College student Joshua A. Layton received the Esther Mae Wilson Petcher Memorial Scholarship for the 2019-’20 academic year. The $3,250 scholarship was presented at the annual awards ceremony.

The award is named in memory of Esther Mae Wilson Petcher, a member of the Bridgewater class of 1944 and a former missionary to Nigeria. The grant is given each year to a rising senior in good academic standing who demonstrates leadership in campus activities with emphasis on religious life.

Layton, a music major, is the son of Bruce and Stacey Layton of Greenwood, Del. Layton is a member of the college’s Flory Honors program. He is a member of National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

He is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, the Pep Band and the Praise Band. He also performs with a saxophone quartet.
