Three music majors, Mallory E. Dove (clarinet), Bethany M. Newman (percussion) and Carrie A. Smith (flute), will present a junior recital March 16 at Bridgewater College.

Three music majors, Mallory E. Dove, Bethany M. Newman and Carrie A. Smith, will present a junior recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Concert Hall in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.

For her clarinet recital, Dove will perform Rhapsody for Clarinet by Willson Osborne and “Allegro Appassionato” and “Andante un poco Adagio” from Sonata in F Minor by Johannes Brahams. Dove will also perform Five Bagatelles, Op. 23 by Gerald Finzi and a duet, Rondinetto by Louis A. Saint-Jacome, with Morgan F. Carr, a senior biochemistry major from Linville, Va., on trumpet.

Dove is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Dove of Linville.

Dove studies clarinet under David Snively, adjunct instructor in music at Bridgewater College. Dr. Tonya Holland, adjunct in music at the college, will accompany Dove on the piano.

For her percussion recital, Newman will perform Furioso and Valse in D Minor by Earl Hatch, Movement No. 1, “Allemande,” from French Suite for Percussion Solo by William Kraft and “Solo No. 60” from Modern Method of Tympani by Saul Goodman.

Newman is the daughter of Greg and Tina Newman of Dayton, Va.

Newman studies percussion under Marlon Foster, adjunct instructor in music at Bridgewater College.

For her flute recital, Smith will perform three movements, “Allegretto Malincolico,” “Cantilena” and “Presto Giocoso,” from Sonate pour Flute et Piano by Francis Poulenc. She also will perform two movements, “Adagio” and “Presto,” from Flute Sonata No. 6 in A Minor, “La Bouget,” by Michel Blavet, and a duet, Allegro and Minuetto for Two Flutes, by Ludwig van Beethoven, with Jillian C. Hensley, a sophomore music major, from Rhoadesville, Va.

Smith is the daughter of Michael and Amy Smith of Powhatan, Va.

Smith studies flute under Dr. Vimari Colón-León, assistant professor of music at Bridgewater College. Lacey Johnson, instructor of music at the college, will accompany Smith on the piano.

Dove, Newman and Smith are members of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble and the Handbell Choir. All three are also members of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME). Newman and Smith serve as co-directors of the Pep Band. Smith is also a member of the Flute Choir.

The recital is free and open to the public.
