BC Ensembles to Give Performance at Frederick Church of the Brethren

Bridgewater College’s Concert Choir, Chorale and Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, located at 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, Md.

Bridgewater College’s Concert Choir, Chorale and Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, located at 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, Md. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Bridgewater College musicians will also perform at Boonsboro Middle School in Boonsboro, Md., on Friday, Feb. 8.

Following the performance on Friday, the group will travel to New York City where they will attend a Broadway show, Chicago, and do some sight-seeing before returning to campus.

The Concert Choir and Chorale are under the direction of Curtis Nolley, Visiting Director of Choral Music at Bridgewater College. Lacey Johnson, Instructor of Music at the college, will accompany the Concert Choir and Chorale on the piano.

Nolley, a Bridgewater College alumnus, returned to his alma mater in the fall of 2018 following a 41-year career as a public school choral director and music specialist in the Shenandoah Valley. In addition to his responsibilities at Bridgewater College, he is in his 19th season as artistic director of the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society and serves as choir director and music coordinator at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.

Carrillo is chair of the Department of Music and Director of Instrumental Music at Bridgewater College where she directs the Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. In addition, she teaches applied trumpet lessons, as well as courses in conducting, music theory and music education. She has previously served on the faculties of James Madison University, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and The Victoria College.

Carrillo earned doctor of musical arts and master of music degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, and dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is an artist/clinician for Conn-Selmer and performs on Bach trumpets.
