Your path to medical professions and more
At Bridgewater College, you’ll receive personal advising to help you achieve your professional goals. Experienced faculty who are dedicated to your success will guide you to the courses you need to take, whatever your career goals.
Interested in med school? Dentistry? Vet school? Join the Pre-Health Society and contact the advisor – Dr. Gavin Lawson – for more information. BC offers a dual degree with Virginia Tech for veterinary science.
Many Bridgewater graduates are in medical professions and have attended distinguished professional schools. Admission to medical or vet school is extremely competitive. Plan your courses with an advisor as soon as you can and work towards a high cumulative GPA.
Interested in clinical lab sciences? BC has agreements with nearby hospitals Sentara RMH (formerly Rockingham Memorial Hospital) Medical Center in Harrisonburg and Augusta Health in Fishersville. These hospitals are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).
The agreements specify three years of undergraduate study, including required science courses and the general education component. After successfully completing a fourth year of study at the medical technology school of either hospital, you will receive your degree from Bridgewater College and be eligible to sit for the national exam to certify you as a medical laboratory scientist. In addition to the courses listed for the biology major, the required courses are: BIOL-314 (Human Physiology), BIOL-400 (Microbiology), BIOL-410 (Immunology), CHEM-305 and CHEM-306 (Organic Chemistry).
