Professor Ashley Lauro, Instructor of English, assumed the role of Director of the Writing Center beginning in July. With nearly 15 years of experience in teaching writing and writing tutoring in higher education, Lauro brings a wealth of knowledge to the position. In addition to the numerous writing courses she has redesigned and taught within the professional writing and English majors, Lauro has worked closely with the Writing Center. She served as Interim Director of the Writing Center in 2015 and has since collaborated with writing tutors and the outgoing director, Dr. Alice Trupe. (Trupe, Professor of English, Emerita, retired at the end of the 2020-21 academic year after 24 years at the College.) Additionally, Lauro has attended and presented at several regional and national conferences related to teaching writing and writing tutoring.
Lauro has also been active in various writing initiatives at the College. She helped design and lead the 2019 Annual Pedagogy Project during which she conducted workshops on best practices in teaching writing for instructors across disciplines. She also serves on the Written Communication FILA Working Group where she helps assess general education writing intensive courses. Additionally, she contributes to the Morgridge Center for Collaborative Learning Committee by engaging in conversations about how the Writing Center can best serve the College.
“Professor Lauro brings energy and enthusiasm, as well as expertise, to directing the Writing Center and coordinating our composition program, and her years of teaching at Bridgewater have demonstrated her commitment to the College’s mission,” Trupe said.
