Bridgewater College senior Christa F. Craighead received the Merlin and Dorothy Faw Garber Award for Christian Service, presented at the annual College Awards Ceremony.
The award is named in memory of the late Dr. Merlin Garber and his wife, Dorothy, who were Bridgewater College alumni and deeply involved in the life of the Church of the Brethren as pastors. The award honors outstanding Christian service.
Craighead, a history and political science major with a minor in communication studies, is the daughter of Chris and Vicki Craighead of Callaway, Va. Craighead is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society, and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.
Craighead is a member of the college’s Spiritual Life Board and Interfaith Board. She also serves as coordinator of the college’s Church Travel Teams that travel on weekends in Virginia and surrounding states to provide leadership for worship services in local congregations.
During the 2019 spring semester, Craighead completed student teaching at Stewart Middle School in Augusta County, Va.
She has volunteered on weekends at Camp Bethel in Fincastle, Va., the outdoor ministry of the Virlina District of the Church of the Brethren.
Craighead graduated on May 4 and will teach seventh-grade social studies in Franklin County, Va.
