Bridgewater College students Joshua Layton (saxophone) and Kathryn McElroy (piano) will present a junior recital on March 17 at Bridgewater College.
Music majors Joshua P. Layton and Kathryn E. McElroy will present a junior recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in the Concert Hall in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.
For his saxophone recital, Layton will perform movements “Fusion,” “August Beguine” and “Cygnus and Aquila” from Fusion Suite by Catherine McMichael and  “Arioso,” “Allegretto” and “Sephardic Melody” from Three Songs Without Words by Paul Ben-Haim. He will also perform five movements, “Allegro,” “Adagio,” “Allegro assai,” “Ondeggiando, ma non adagio” and “Allegro,” from Sonata in C Minor by Georg Philipp Telemann.
Layton is the son of Bruce and Stacey Layton of Greenwood, Del. Layton is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, the Pep Band and the Praise Band. He is a member of National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
Layton studies saxophone under Anthony Cincotta, adjunct in music at Bridgewater College. Dr. Tonya Holland, adjunct in music at the college, will accompany Layton on piano.
For her piano recital, McElroy will perform “Vektersang (Watchman’s Song), Op. 12, No. 3” from Grieg Lyric Pieces Book I by Edvard Grieg and three movements, “Allegro,” “Andante” and “Vivace,” from “Sonatina in C Major, Op. 36, No. 1” by Muzio Clementi. She will also perform “Fairytale” and “Meadow Dance” from Thirty Pieces for Children by Dmitry Kabalevsky and “Prelude No. 1, C Major, BWV 846” from The Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach.
McElroy is the daughter of James and Alison McElroy of Dayton, Va. McElroy is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble and NAfME.
McElroy studies piano under Lacey Johnson, instructor of music at Bridgewater.
The recital is free and open to the public.
