ASPIRE opens Saturday, April 29, with the Showker Prize reveal from the Zane D. Showker Institute for Responsible Leadership at 4 p.m. in the Spoerlein Lecture Hall in the McKinney Center for Science and Mathematics. The Prize will be awarded to one of five interdisciplinary teams of students who use their expertise, creativity and passion to provide a solution to a challenging problem. The winning team will receive a $5,000 cash award to be divided among the members.
The Bridgewater College Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music, will present “Heaven on Earth” at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Cole Hall.
A Bridgewater College Digital Scholarship faculty panel discussion will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, in Room 126 of the McKinney Center.
Student research convocations sponsored by Alpha Chi, a national scholastic honor society, will be presented at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, and Thursday, May 4, and at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 5. All three presentations will be in Cole Hall.
A communication student panel will present a discussion on Tuesday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m. in the Stone Prayer Chapel in the Carter Center for Worship and Music.
A cultural studies student panel discussion will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m. in the Boitnott Room.
A history student and faculty panel discussion will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, in Room 223 of the McKinney Center.
Students and faculty will give poster presentations from 5:30–6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in Nininger Hall.
On Thursday, May 4, a biochemistry student panel will present a discussion in the Boitnott Room at 9:30 a.m. and a family and consumer sciences panel discussion will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Room 223 of the McKinney Center.
Bridgewater College faculty research presentations will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, in the Boitnott Room.
A choral concert will be presented by the Bridgewater College Concert Choir and Chorale at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 5, in the Carter Center. “Red is the Rose: Songs of Color and Growth” under the direction of Dr. John McCarty, assistant professor of music and director of choral music, and accompanied by Lacey Johnson, instructor of music, will feature pieces in a variety of styles representing many eras with texts relating to color and growth.
The Bridgewater College Jazz Ensemble will present “The Many Sounds of Jazz” at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in Cole Hall, under the direction of Carrillo. Featured musical styles include swing, ballad, rock, Latin, hip hop, funk and old-time swing feel.
ASPIRE concludes with the Senior Art Thesis opening receptions on Monday, May 8, from 5–8 p.m. and artists’ talks by the seniors at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in the Boitnott Room. Maps of the exhibition sites will be available at the Cleo Driver Miller Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the Alexander Mack Memorial Library.
All ASPIRE events are free and open to the public.
