An exhibition of works created by photographic artist and Hollins University Assistant Professor of Photography Mary Zompetti will be showcased Monday, Aug. 22, through Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the Beverly Perdue Art Gallery located on the lower level of the John Kenny Forrer Learning Commons.
Zompetti lives and works in Roanoke, Va., and her work utilizes traditional and experimental analog photographic methods to investigate land, home and environment. Zompetti’s “The Lost Garden” series was created by exposing large-format film to environmental conditions over extended periods of time. Wind, rain, ice and snow alter the film, cracking and pulling the delicate silver emulsion, leaving time and place-specific impressions.
The art exhibition will have an opening reception in the gallery from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, and an artist’s talk at 5:30 p.m.
The art exhibition, opening reception and artist’s talk are free and open to the public. The gallery is open from 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; and noon to midnight on Sunday.
