SUMMARY:Theatre at Bridgewater College Presents: Blue Heart by Caryl Churchill
DESCRIPTION:Theatre at Bridgewater College Presents: Blue Heart by Caryl ChurchillWhen: Feb. 16-19\, 8 p.m.Where: Cole Hall \n\n\n\nTheatre at Bridgewater College presents “Blue Heart” from Feb. 16 through Feb. 19 in Cole Hall on the College’s campus. The show will begin at 8 p.m. each night. \n\n\n\nCaryl Churchill’s “Blue Heart” consists of two related short plays\, “Heart’s Desire” and “Blue Kettle”\, both examining strained family – and especially filial – relationships. \n\n\n\nIn “Heart’s Desire”\, Brian and his wife Alice\, together with Brian’s sister Maisie\, are waiting for the arrival of their daughter Susy\, who is returning home after some years spent in Australia. A simple domestic scenario is replayed over and over with widely differing developments – some heartbreaking\, some wildly comical or surreal. \n\n\n\nIn “Blue Kettle”\, a middle-aged man\, Derek\, and his girlfriend\, Enid\, are involved in a con trick\, making a series of elderly women believe that Derek is the son they once gave up for adoption. But as the situation develops\, the play’s dialogue undergoes a radical distortion.   \n\n\n\nTickets for the production are $10 for adults\, $8 for seniors (65 and older) and non-BC students\, and free for BC students\, faculty and staff. \n\n\n\nIn keeping with guidance from the CDC\, Bridgewater College requires that all individuals\, regardless of vaccination status\, properly wear face masks when indoors in public areas of campus. \n\n\n\nBlue Heart is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc.\, www.concordtheatricals.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. White has been a working\, exhibiting sculptor since receiving her MFA in 1997 from the University of Colorado at Boulder where she studied with Scott Chamberlin\, Betty Woodman and Antonette Rosato. She has worked and lived in Fredericksburg\, Va.\, with her husband and three children since 2015. \n\n\n\n“My working process stems from a curiosity about the strangeness of everyday. SUMMARY:Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Update: The College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day march is cancelled\, and the virtual teach-ins are postponed. \n\n\n\nBridgewater College has annually hosted the Martin Luther King Jr. community march in collaboration with the Town of Bridgewater. While this year\, due to weather\, our annual march is cancelled and the virtual teach-ins have been postponed\, we still honor Dr. King with an exhibit in the KCC Lobby. We encourage community members to visit the KCC Lobby\, as this exhibit will be on display until Friday\, Jan. 21. \n\n\n\nOur student speaker for this year’s MLK Day assembly is Jalissa White-Jones ’22. Please watch this video to hear what Dr. King means to her. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMembers of the community are invited to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with Bridgewater College during its annual Martin Luther King Day celebration\, “Celebrating the Dream\, Continuing the Journey.”  \n\n\n\nThe celebration will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday\, Jan. 17\, at Oakdale Park in Bridgewater. The event kicks off with guest speakers giving remarks at Oakdale followed by a march of event attendees from Oakdale Park to Bridgewater College’s campus. A shuttle will be available for those who would like to participate in the march but are unable to walk the entire route because of limited mobility.  \n\n\n\nAt the conclusion of the march\, guests are invited to enjoy a reception in the Kline Campus Center lobby. After the reception\, Bridgewater College faculty will lead three teach-ins on Zoom. \n\n\n\nThe teach-in sessions are as follows:  \n\n\n\n“From Civil Rights to Afrofuturism: Dr. King’s Influence on Science Fiction Media” with Dr. Grace Martin\, 12:30 p.m. This teach-in session will examine the connections between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work for Civil Rights and its legacy in Afrofuturist media. (livestream on Zoom)\n\n\n\n“All Labor Has Dignity” with Dr. Sam Hamilton\, 1:30 p.m. In addition to his commitment to ending racial segregation\, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was similarly committed to the cause of economic justice. Just as the moral lessons from his Civil Rights advocacy can and should inform our present-day struggles with racial justice\, so too should King’s lifelong support for workers’ rights inform our present-day struggles with economic justice. (livestream on Zoom)\n\n\n\n“Martin Luther King Jr. And Nelson Mandela: Leaders for Non-Racial Democracy” with Dr. Jamie Frueh\, 2:30 p.m. Frueh will lead a discussion comparing two of the most respected leaders of the 20th century. (livestream on Zoom)\n\n\n\nAll events are free and open to the public. In keeping with guidance from the CDC\, Bridgewater College requires that all individuals\, regardless of vaccination status\, properly wear face masks when indoors in public areas of campus. \n\n\n\nAT A GLANCE: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration \n\n\n\n10:45 a.m. | Gather at Oakdale Park134 Mount Crawford Avenue\, Bridgewater \n\n\n\n11 a.m. | Remarks by Town and College RepresentativesMarch from Oakdale Park to Bridgewater College at the conclusion of remarks. \n\n\n\nFollowing the March | ReceptionKline Campus Center Lobby \n\n\n\n12:30 p.m. | Dr. Grace Martin\, “From Civil Rights to Afrofuturism: Dr. King’s Influence on Science Fiction Media”livestream on Zoom \n\n\n\n1:30 p.m. | Dr. Sam Hamilton\, “All Labor Has Dignity” livestream on Zoom \n\n\n\n2:30 p.m. | Dr. Jamie Frueh\, “Martin Luther King Jr. And Nelson Mandela: Leaders for Non-Racial Democracy” livestream on Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare
