DESCRIPTION:AT A GLANCEShenandoah Valley Archives FairWhen: Wednesday\, Oct. 12\, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.                                      Where: Newlen-Bradford Special Collections of the John Kenny Forrer Learning Commons at Bridgewater CollegeCost: Free to the public \n\n\n\nDiscover history and celebrate Virginia Archives Month with Bridgewater College at the annual Shenandoah Valley Archives Fair. Founded in 2019\, the Shenandoah Valley Archives Fair is an annual event that connects the regional community with Valley history.  Styled as an expo\, visitors meet with representatives of regional collecting institutions and learn about the unique primary sources that are preserved and shared by Shenandoah Valley archives.  This free event will be of interest to students\, teachers\, historians and genealogists.  Archivists will share the scope of their collections and tell how to conduct research with the primary sources. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions regarding the availability of primary sources in their areas of interest and research.  \n\n\n\nParticipating institutions include: \n\n\n\nAugusta County Historical SocietyClarke County Historical AssociationGeorge C. For information on summer hours and holiday closures\, visit libguides.bridgewater.edu. \n\n\n\nBridgewater College Special Collections will exhibit “The ’20s are Back at Bridgewater\,” a showcase of 1920s BC artifacts compared to their modern-day counterparts\, from April 19 through Oct. 3. The exhibition will be on display on the lower level of the John Kenny Forrer Learning Commons on the College’s campus. \n\n\n\nThrough photographs\, artifacts and archival memorabilia from the 1920s and today\, visitors are encouraged to ask themselves the questions\, “Were the ’20s really roaring at Bridgewater College?” and\, “How has BC student life changed from the 1920s to today?” \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is curated by Stephanie S. Gardner\, Special Collections Librarian\, and Savannah Scott ‘23. The exhibition features historic materials from the Newlen-Bradford Special Collections and the Reuel B. Pritchett Museum Collection\, with contemporary components provided by lenders and donors across campus. \n\n\n\nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, FLC Circulation Supervisor Sylvia Jones curated a display of available books and DVDs set in and featuring the 1920s. The display can be found on the FLC’s main floor near the services desk. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is free and open to the public. The gallery is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday\, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday\, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. During the winter\, check libguides.bridgewater.edu for hours and closures.  \n\n\n\nBridgewater College Special Collections will exhibit “Getting the Band Back Together:  A Celebration of Marching Bands at Bridgewater College\,” a showcase of the historic BC marching band from 1950 to 1971 and the Screamin’ Eagles which debuted this year. The exhibit will be open from Oct. 15 through Dec. 10 on the lower level of the John Kenny Forrer Learning Commons on the College’s campus.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibit is open from 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday\, 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday\, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and noon to midnight on Sunday. During the winter\, hours may vary depending on the College’s winter break and for inclement weather. Check libguides.bridgewater.edu for hours and closures.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibit was curated by BC Special Collections Librarian Stephanie S. Gardner and BC Special Collections Intern Meghann L.
